Air Compressor Basics:

An air compressor is an electromagnetically device that uses compressed air as its prime mover. Just like any other device, the air compressor operates by applying pressure to the air entering the compressor, which can drive a mechanism that pumps air out of the machine.

In some cases the compressor can also be powered by electricity, which can assist in ensuring that the machine is maintained at a constant working.

There are 3 styles of air compressor commonly found in mobile industrial applications:

Reciprocating compressors

Reciprocating compressors are the most common air compressors found in mobile applications, and they are the type most people are familiar with. There are a wide variety of manufacturers and suppliers worldwide, providing an array of options.

With a few configurations, such as pressure and flow rates, there is a compressor that does a great job in reducing air flow through the smallest source. For mobile or makeshift applications, compressed air can be used to relieve pressure problems, deal with leaks, or compress or expel wet sand.

They can also be used to extinguish a fire. In almost all cases, they do the job of the crush bars, and still cost about the same. The main difference is that compression air provides a more complete system of controls than crush bars. In addition, both offer greater.

ROTARY SCREW COMPRESSORS

Traditionally, Rotary screw compressors were found in stationary applications and were not widespread in mobile applications. However, times have changed as rotary screw compressors become more affordable and their benefits are increasingly recognized across diverse industries.

ROTARY VANE COMPRESSORS

Rotary vane compressor is one of the three common compressor types found in mobile applications, the rotary vane compressor is the least common. There are fewer manufacturers of the vane compressor compared to reciprocating compressors, and service parts can be more challenging to find.

Where the rotary compressor has lower parts count, it also has a lower reliability and longevity. Many high-speed trucks like the Dodge 300, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500/2000/X

When choosing a compressor for your mobile application, there are many factors to consider. The initial purchase price, ease of and cost of maintenance, size, availability, air flow and longevity are all important for your overall satisfaction with your compressor. Knowing which compressor meets your needs is an important step in finalizing your industrial compressor system. B&C Compressor is committed to helping you find the right compressor for your mobile application.
